HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY AND SECURITY: PUBLIC SECTOR'S ROLE IN THE FOT
The research described in this paper is based on a project conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and jointly funded by the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Joint Program Office, and the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). The objective of the project is to quantify the security costs and benefits of an operational concept that applies technology and improved enforcement procedures to hazardous materials transportation and to demonstrate (through a Field Operational Test) an approach that ensures the safety and security of hazardous material shipments from origin to destination. The project is being performed by a team led by Battelle under Contract No DTMC75-01-D-00003, Task #05.
