ASSESSING THE POTENTIAL OF IN-CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEMS FOR THE HIRE CAR MARKET
As route guidance systems assist drivers in their route choice by giving directions, it seems likely that a good potential market for this technology can be found in the hire car market. Driver response to in-car guidance of two differing qualities was tested to ascertain the potential usefulness of navigation systems for the hire car market. A key area of the project was to address willingness to pay and the effect of guidance acceptance by drivers who are unfamiliar with a network when the information provided by the route guidance system is less than perfect.
