ROAD SAFETY IN AUSTRALIA: A PUBLICATION COMMEMORATING WORLD HEATH DAY 2004
This publication, which has been compiled and produced as a contribution to World Health Day 2004, is intended as a source of information and a reference document covering a range of key topics in road safety in Australia. It discusses trends and strategies, and the Australian government's road safety function. The five major behavioral factors in road fatalities are discussed: speed, occupant protection measures, substance abuse, fatigue, and driver distraction. The study also looks at vehicles and vulnerable groups, areas of risk and community issues. It concludes with a look at the future and how Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can be used to improve safety.
