FIREFIGHTER FATALITIES IN THE UNITED STATES - 2003. FULL REPORT
The National Fire Protection Association collects data annually on all deaths of firefighters that are the result of injuries or illness that occurred while the firefighter was at the scene of a fire alarm. This report discusses and analyzes the data that was collected in the year 2003. It investigates the types of duty associated with fatalities, the nature and cause of deaths and the ages of the firefighters who were fatally injured. The report also highlights deaths in suspicious or incendiary fires, and those in motor-vehicle related incidents. In addition, the report summarizes individual incidents that illustrate significant concerns or problems in the safety of firefighters.
