METHODS FOR MEASUREMENT OF EMISSIONS FROM HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES

MATMETODER FOR UPPFOLJNING AV AVGASEMISSIONER FRAN TUNGA FORDON

A survey of available methods for emissions measurements of heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) has been performed. The primary focus was on measurements of real world emissions. Each method has been evaluated with respect to its applicability for emission factor determination and with respect to in use conformity testing of HDVs. Most of the investigated real world methods are rather ill suited to deliver results in brake specific emissions, which are the units used for HDV vehicle engine certification tests. A breakthrough for real world methods with respect to emission factor determination would therefore require emission inventory data for HDVs to be based on some other unit, e.g. grams per liter fuel burned or grams per ton-kilometer.
