EFFECT OF PREPARATION AND TESTING CONDITIONS ON THE VISCOSITY OF CRM
In the last decade, considerable research has been done on the properties of crumb rubber modified asphalt. Some researchers have focused on the environmental aspect of growing stockpiles of waste tyres, and some have sought to improve the properties of asphalt cements, that is, low temperature or moisture susceptibility. This paper focuses on some of the discrepancies in the published research, particularly the effect of preparation and testing conditions on viscosity, the most basic property of CRM from the technological standpoint. Discrepancies were found in the effects of temperature, duration of mixing (interaction), curing (reaction), and the type, size, and gradation of crumb rubber on the viscosity of CRM. To clarify these discrepancies, laboratory tests were conducted on 60/70 penetration grade asphalt cement from the Tabriz refinery and fine and coarse crumb rubber produced at Yazd Tire in Iran. Viscosity tests using a Brookfield viscometer were conducted at different temperatures. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E210251.
