LOCAL STRESSES AND CRACK DISPLACEMENTS IN REINFORCED CONCRETE ELEMENTS. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a prior paper with the aforementioned title by Y. Sato and S. Fujii, published in this journal (Volume 128, Number 12, October 2002), is presented. While the discusser commends the authors on their study of reinforced concrete elements that helps identify failure mechanisms and provides a set of formulas for analysis, it is noted that their paper requires iterations which would be cumbersome for design office use. To remedy this problem, several simplifications of equations used by the authors in their paper are offered. Closure from the authors is included relating to this and other points raised by the discusser.
