HEALTH AND SAFETY IN ROAD HAULAGE
This report summarises the nature of health and safety considerations in the road freight transport industry in the UK. These issues are often not sufficiently well managed but lack of good practice can lead to injury, ill health and deaths in the work force. Types of fatality and injury are outlined and a management procedure proposed, including the nomination of a responsible person, where to acquire information on risks and controls, and a health and safety checklist covering workplace and falls risks. Basic case studies of fatalities are mentioned, with some of the legal consequences of failing to take adequate care. Further reading and sources of advice are suggested.
