THE ENNS BRIDGE

Two new bridges are being built across the River Enns in Austria as part of projects to widen a section of railway track to four tracks between St. Poelten and Wels and to construct a by-pass to carry the B1 past the towns of Ennsdorf, Enns and Asten. A three span prestressed concrete box-section bridge is being built for the two-track railway line. On the western bank the river crossings lead onto a four span steel composite bridge for the railway and a five span bridge for the main road. These pass over an industrial estate and several railway branch lines. The two bridges across the river are being built outwards from either pier using the balanced cantilever method. Details are given of the formwork solutions provided by Doka.
