GO-KARTS: GUIDANCE ON SAFE OPERATION AND USE
This guidance document is aimed at those involved in the design, manufacture, examination, supply, importation and use of go-karts. The hazards associated with go-karts are listed and the precautions needed to avoid them are outlined. The essential design features, the design of user containment systems, fire prevention and design considerations for junior go-karts are described. Advice is given on buying and selling go-carts and the required documentation. Guidelines are given on track design (track width, boundaries, surface, surroundings and signalling) and on safe operation (maintenance, inspections, fuel storage, refuelling, supervision, protective equipment, training). Relevant UK legislation is described.
