THE NEW ROAD MAINTENANCE - PREVENTION FIRST
Washington, D.C., uses a private contractor, VMS Incorporated, for performance-based asset preservation of 75 miles of city streets and roads in the DC Streets Project. Maintenance elements are assigned ratings of good, fair or poor. An evaluation conducted almost three years into the project shows that street quality ratings are improving. The overall evaluation score improved from a baseline score of less than 30 to almost 80.
