MODELLING AND SIMULATION OF AIRCRAFT TURNAROUND OPERATIONS AT AIRPORTS
This paper proposes a Markovian type simulation model for investigation of aircraft turnaround operation performance. This model is capable of simulating the stochastic transition behavior between major aircraft turnaround activities and potential disruption activities from passengers and aircraft ground services. Additionally, the properties of Markov chains are used to model the interdependence effects between sequential procedures of aircraft turnarounds. The proposed turnaround model can be applied to simulate flight schedule punctuality under different operational conditions at different airports. A further application of the model is to model the aircraft turnaround operation at different airports in order to investigate the reliability and punctuality of aircraft rotation against operational perturbations from aircraft turnarounds.
