IMPLICATIONS FOR SHIPPERS AND LOGISTICIANS FROM LARGE SCALE RAILROAD MERGERS
The focus of logisticians is on the movement of goods through a multi-modal supply chain. If an organization of some of the movement suppliers, such as railroads, is structurally altered, that event can have an important performance impact on the logistician's supply chain assumptions. This paper uses the merger of CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern to illustrate how a large scale railroad merger can impact the supply chain sequence of events.
