MOTORCYCLE EDUCATION CURRICULUM SPECIFICATIONS
The report contains specifications for a motorcycle safety education curriculum designed to reduce the incidence and severity of motorcycle accidents. The specifications prescribe objectives, prerequisites, methods, materials, equipment, facilities, and proficiency measures for six units of instruction as follows: Unit I - Basic Riding Skills, Unit II - Street Riding Principles, Unit III - Street Riding Skills, Unit IV - Maintenance, Unit V - Off-Street Operation, and Unit VI - Preparation for Travel. The instructional units can be configured in a variety of ways in order to accommodate the range of interests and experience levels that characterize individuals seeking motorcycle instruction. Six specific courses have been identified. An instructional program was developed from the specifications by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. It was pilot tested on 48 students during the summer of 1976. The specifications have been revised to reflect experiences gained during the pilot test.
