INNOVATIVE WIRELESS VALUE-ADDED-SERVICES IN INDIVIDUAL TRANSPORT
For decades, the volume of traffic has been increasing constantly. This includes the private and public transport of individuals, as well as the transport of goods. This growth has manifested itself in all areas, including road, rail and air traffic, as well as shipping. Innovative measurements are urgently needed in order to ensure modern and future-oriented traffic developments, within and between congested areas. Transport telematics, which is a special sub-area of the dynamic telecommunications area, provides the necessary know-how and equipment for the development of a new type of services. The new services will combine communication and information with navigation. The devices, which will offer the new services, are called Personal Travel Assistants (PTA). The technology of PTA's is based on information exchange on mobile networks with increase of the bandwidth, localisation without Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and the Wireless Application Protocol.
