SKID RESISTANCE--FINAL REPORT ON REPEATABILITY OF MEASURING UNIT AND INFLUENCE OF SPEED
This publication is the final report of the findings derived from a multi-year study of the dynamic repeatability of the measuring unit and the effects of speed on skid resistance. The repeatability data were obtained on an isolated section of Portland Cement Concrete which was not subjected to traffic over the two year testing period. The results indicate that the measuring unit, which conforms to ASTM E-274 Specification has an inherent whole number error of plus or minus 1 SM. The analysis also indicated that the error for the left and right wheel was very consistent with values of plus or minus 1.2 and plus or minus 1.4 SN respectively. The effects of speed on skid resistance was analyzed from two aspects; 3 point speed gradient determinations and two speed SN correlations. The Results indicate that two speed ralationships provide very high correlation factors which appear to be relatively constant. Therefore, once the skid resistance has been determined for one of the speeds specificed the value for the remaining speed can be accurately determined. /Author/
