THE DETERMINATION OF ALKYLBENZENESULFONATE TYPE ADMIXTURES IN CONCRETE USING METHYLENE BLUE DYE
A method of analysis for admixtures containing alkylbenzenesulfonate has been developed. The method is tested in five phases and the results indicate that it has strong potential both as a qualitative and quantitative analytical technique. In Phase I it is shown that the method is effective in differentiating between solutions of alkylbenzenesulfonate containing admixtures and admixtures of other types. Phases II-IV demonstrate the utility of the method on concrete mortar mixes, concrete compressive strength cylinders and concrete cores cut from pavements. Phase V demonstrates the applicability of the method as a quantitative technique. This study shows that the method developed is a rapid, reliable and effective way to analyze concrete for alkylbenzenesulfonate containing admixtures. It appears to be superior to existing IR techniques in the areas of simplicity, sensitivity and quantitative ability. /Author/
