PAAKAUPUNKISEUDUN PAAVAYLIEN LIIKENTEENHALLINTAJARJESTELMA
The goal of this report is to present an overview of the traffic telematics development possibilities for traffic management in the Helsinki surroundings. The discussed area consists of the Ring Road I and its internal radial arteries. Presently the monitoring is mainly collecting vehicle speed and traffic flow information and road weather data. Possibilities to monitor vehicle journey speeds is being researched. Road users can be informed via radio either within the normal radio broadcasts or use the traffic information possibilities of the RDS/TMC system. Variable message signs can be used to inform road users on public transport schedules from park & ride facilities and on exceptional delays. The traffic control projects in the near future include mainly installing variable speed limit signs, congestion and road weather warning systems, and incident triggered lane and road guidance systems.
