MATERIALS AND FABRICATIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR OFFSHORE CONSTRUCTIONS
The selection of steel qualities, welding consumables and welding techniques for large offshore structures entails a consideration of the particular design in the context of the environment in which the construction will be fabricated, installed and operated. This paper discusses the various potential failure mechanisms--brittle fracture, fatigue, stress corrosion, etc, which must be taken into account as well as problems which may arise during fabrication, for example because of lamellar tearing or underbead cracking. Matters requiring further research are briefly indicated. Order from: BSRA No. 48,083.
