THE ELECTRIC ANALOG TECHNIQUE FOR MEASURING HYDRODYNAMIC ADDED MASS
Experiments were conducted in a water tank to measure the hydrodynamic added mass coefficient of a blunt nosed body emerging from a submarine. Use is made of the electric analogy which exists between hydrodynamic pressure due to acceleration and voltage due to current. Measurements of current induced voltages are transformed into acceleration induced pressures from which the added mass is calculated for bodies moving a complex geometric environment. Good agreement exists with analytically describable configurations.
