MARITIME LABOR ORGANIZATIONS ON THE GREAT LAKES-ST. LAWRENCE SEAWAY SYSTEM

Chapter (1) provides a bacground and description of the system of pilotage; Chapter (2) deals with lock operation and auxilitary personnel in both Canada and the U.S.; Chapter (3) covers the dock and harbor labor, including the stevedoring agreements along with an analysis of general cargo traffic and longshore employment; Chapter (4) provides a description of labor management relations and the various maritime labor organizations including employment trends and the changing composition of the bulk fleet; Chapter (5) contains the summary and conclusions. Nineteen tables are included covering vessel transits of the seaway, pilotage revenue, general cargo traffic through selected ports, employment, U.S. fleets on the Great Lakes and ages of seamen by occupation.
