NYK'S FLEET UPKEEP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND THE "EASY MAINTENANCE"

The fleet upkeep management system is broadly classified into technical management, cost management and feed-back of operational results to the planning and building of new ships. These three functions do not operate independently, but are closely related with each other and have to be considered as an overall system which requires improvement by continuous effort. The paper explains the views of the Japanese Shipping company N.Y.K. on such matters as time-between-overhaul, spare parts control and condition monitoring and how they are being implemented in the building of an "easy maintenance ship".
