The paper presents a brief history of the Planned Maintenance scheme operated by Tokyo Tanker Company Ltd which has enabled them to extend the drydocking interval of their ships to two years. The main features of this strategy are; (1) Unification of essential equipment; (2) Selection of non-corrosive material; (3) Requirement of 200 hours heat run test for all electrical equipment before installation; (4) Special paint coating for cargo tank space; and (5) Establishment of back-up repair system by contract workers.
