ROCK DYNAMICS AND GEOPHYSICAL EXPLORATION. INTRODUCTION TO STRESS WAVES IN ROCKS
The purpose of this book is to give a theoretical and physical understanding of the propagation of stress waves in rock and to single out the parameters governing the process and interpreting these parameters physically. The contents are presented under the following headings: fundamental equations; some characteristic features of plane waves (elastic medium); some characteristic features of spherical waves (elastic medium); some characteristic features of a cylindrical wave (elastic medium); harmonic input impulse (elastic medium); characteristic features of plane waves (kelvin medium), spherical wave (kelvin medium), experimental study of stress waves in rocks; experimental results compared with theory; evaluation of data; dispersion and particle acceleration: application in the evaluation of data; surface explosions; some practical problems; sensitivity criteria for tunnels. /TRRL/
