The purpose of this paper is to discuss aluminum as a material in automobile bumper systems that must comply with FMVSS 215, Part 581. Design concepts, alloy consideration, structural design analysis, extrusion design, fabrication and finishing of aluminum in bumper systems are considered. /SASI/
