PROPOSED STANDARD LOAD HISTORIES FOR FATIGUE TESTING RELEVANT TO OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
Predicted fatigue lives for engineering structures should be confirmed by large-scale fatigue tests on prototype subjected to load histories representative of service conditions. For offshore tubular structures exposed to North Sea conditions, however, no standardized load histories are at present available, and this Report proposes a system of load histories for practical use based on theoretical calculations using measured wave-height data. Further information is desirable to confirm the validity of the basic theoretical assumptions, but the proposed histories are believed to be near the optimum at present possible. The method of analysis can be readily applied to improved data as they become available. Order from: BSRA as No. 47,399.
