TECHNIQUES FOR UNBALANCED SURVEY SAMPLES: MARGINAL WEIGHTING OF SURVEY DATA
Two techniques are discussed for calculating weights to be applied to sample data, to insure that the expanded sample corresponds to marginal census proportions: the techniques are due to W. Edwards Deming and Richard M. Johnson. Empirical observations are based on four small urban area study data sets from New York State with age, sex, household size and transportation mode cross tabulated as the marginals. Results show that both procedures produce reasonable results with minimal computations. The procedures are described in appendices. General n-dimensional format was used to aid in programming. /Author/
