EARTH PRESSURES ON DEEP SHAFTS
This paper discusses earth pressures on deep shafts. It compares the pressures using classical, theoretical, and numerical methods, and discusses the drawbacks of the classical and theoretical methods, and then brings up the advantages of using the numerical analysis for modeling lateral earth pressures on circular shafts. The methodology and factors that influence the lateral earth pressures on shafts using the characteristic properties of glazially overridden soils are also discussed.
