AVIATION SAFETY AND OPERATING PROBLEMS RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY
The paper presents some findings resulting from the NASA's Aviation Safety Research and Technology Program which is a broad-based multidisciplinary effort aimed at solving those operational problems where new knowledge or understanding is required. Topics includes prediction, detection, and measurement of clear air turbulence, lightning and thunderstorm gust hazards, some aircraft ground operating problems, aircraft fire technology, aircraft crashworthiness, and some results of aircraft wake vortex hazard research.
