THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE UTILITY POLE IMPACT STUDY: A PROJECT RESUME PRELIMINARY REPORT
In the eight months between the 8th. July, 1976 and the 8th. March, 1977 the study team investigated 879 vehicle crashes involving utility poles in the Melbourne metropolitan area. Property damage only accidents, as well as casualty accidents were studied. There were 31 fatalities and 374 injured persons as a result of the 879 utility pole collisions. This is a preliminary report which outlines the project objectives, the scope of the data collected and the proposed project program. A breakdown by accident type for the accident sample and the random site sample, is also presented. /Author/TRRL/
