RECENT ADVANCES IN MARINE COATINGS
Within the last few years, a number of significant advances have been made in the marine coatings field. These include surface preparation procedures, coating developments and repair procedures. The paper reviews these developments, listing their advantages and disadvantages. Chlorinated rubbers, while not new, are being increasingly used for offshore structure protection. Examples of above- and below-the-waterline systems are given. Reference is also made to new developments in coatings for low temperature service. These include urethanes and aziridine cured materials. Improvements in anti-foulings, abrasion resistant bottom coatings and underwater-applied coatings are also reviewed.
