AUTOMATION IN RAPID TRANSIT CONTROL: THE STATE OF THE ART

The purpose of this report is twofold. First and foremost, it is intended to serve as a "primer" on automatic train control for rapid transit systems. Secondly, the report is to provide an insight into the potential and realizable benefits of automatic train control. Constraining factors and considerations are discussed. A special attempt is made to introduce practical considerations into the assessment of automatic train control for rapid transit systems. It is hoped that the information and the considerations brought forward in this report will aid in the assessment of future systems. /Author/
