THE TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE OWNERSHIP IN THE RAIL INDUSTRY: THE CASE OF SWISS PRIVATE RAILWAYS. IN: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN TRANSPORT ECONOMICS
The purpose of this paper is to analyze public and private railway ownership in Sweden and to compare the technical efficiency of the two railroads to determine if any efficiency disparities exist within a European setting. From a general economic perspective, technical efficiency is examined because it is of greater significance if private companies extract more from the inputs they obtain, than if they simply obtain their inputs at lower cost.
