THE USE OF SPATIAL IMPACT MODELS IN PHYSICAL PLANNING
This paper focuses attention on impact analysis as a tool for regional and urban decision making, and describes the manner in which a variety of spatial phenomena are affected by changes in key elements of the spatial system. These phenomena include socio-economic, spatial and ecological-environmental elements, and emphasis is laid upon coherence among these elements. The analysis then focuses upon the public policy aspects of a spatial system, and particular attention is paid to a decision framework in which a multiplicity of (competing or conflicting) criteria plays a role. Empirical applications at a regional scale are used as illustrations.
