USERS ASPECTS OF ROUTE CHOICE AND ROUTE GUIDANCE

GEBRUIKERSASPECTEN VAN ROUTEKEUZE EN ROUTEGELEIDING

In traffic behaviour three levels are distinguished: the tactical level (steering of the vehicle, regulation of speed and position on the road); the intermediate level (manoeuvre behaviour: passing, overtaking or following of a car) and the strategic level (preparation of the journey and the process of following a route during a journey). On each of these three levels the driver needs information. In this paper only the need for information on the strategic level is discussed. For satisfactory guidance to the place of destination it is necessary that the information along the road does not differ from the information obtained by the driver during preparation for his journey. /TRRL/
