BICYCLE COMMUTING POTENTIAL IN CANADA
The bicycle as a commuter mode is not viable for eight months of the year in most Canadian cities due mainly to the severe winter weather. Many cities have physical barriers such as steep hills or restricted bridges. The bicycle is advantageous for short trips between, one mile and two and a half miles. The major thrust for bicycle pathways should be aimed at maximizing their recreational potential. The costs to develop such facilities are usually small and they can provide both healthy and enjoyable recreation. /TRRL/
