CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE AND USE OF TOURIST CYCLING PATHS
It is stated that cyclists are attracted by well-designed, smooth surfaced cycling-paths and in the province of Drenthe the width of 2 metres has proved ideal. Special paths are necessary in the towns both for the home to work traffic and for recreational cyclists coming out into the country. With better facilities for cyclists, more car-users will leave their cars at home and take their bicycles. The government of the Netherlands stimulates cycling path building by means of special grants. /TRRL/
