FACILITIES FOR BICYCLES AND MOPEDS IN THE NETHERLANDS
The dominant role of the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB in the promotion of the use of the bicycle in the Netherlands is described. At present there are some 7.5 million bicycles and some 1.75 million mopeds in the Netherlands. It appears from accident statistics that 10 to 15 percent of the casualties in traffic are cyclists and 30 to 35 percent moped-riders. It is mainly road planning that must present a solution to the problems in the field of traffic safety, for instance cycle paths. Abridged contents of memoranda "cycling-tracks along thoroughfares" and "regulations for cyclists and moped riders in the Netherlands" are added. /TRRL/
