ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS RELATIVE TO CIVIL WORKS PROJECTS IN THE COASTAL ZONE OF THE UNITED STATES
It is stated that in the first 200 years of existence of the USA, the main attention was given to making the traffic quick, safe and comfortable. New ideas on ecology and attempts to preserve the environment have altered this strategy. A proposal is made to coordinate all suitable environmental statements and send these to coordinating centres which are listed. Although it may appear that little progress at the national level is being made, the first real steps are being made through the objections of a portion of the public to projects and programs which fail to include pedestrian and cycling facilities within their planning projections. /TRRL/
