A REVIEW OF HARDWARE FOR COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

This paper which is written from the users point of view describes the functioning of the equipment and indicates the factors an intending user should consider before purchasing equipment. The review which describes current developments and covers certain hardware aspects in great detail, directs particular attention to the growing use of minicomputers to control graphical input-output equipment and thus to provide interactive design systems in a variety of work station configurations. Bureau computers and general purpose in-house computers are briefly reviewed, and the details are discussed of input-output equipment. Low intelligence devices-teletype, plotters (drum, flatbed, phot, visual displays) are covered, as well as intelligent terminals, the interactive design system, and interactive visual displays.
