FUTURE AIR RIGHTS DEVELOPMENT ABOVE CUT-AND-COVER TUNNELS
The Central Artery Tunnel Project in Boston will extend the Massachusetts Turnpike to Logan International Airport through a tunnel system under the Boston Harbor and East Boston. This paper discusses the unique design considerations of the cut and cover tunnel structure to accommodate future air rights development in downtown and East Boston. An additional consideration is the effect of the tunnel ventilation system and air quality when the development occurs at the tunnel portal.
