A MODEL TO AID ROAD TRANSPORT INVESTMENT DECISIONS
The model has been developed to aid road transport planning in developing countries. It uses the interrelationships between road design and construction standards, road environment and road deterioration to predict the construction, road maintenance and road user costs for A road link. It is based on physical relationships to which construction, road maintenance and road user costs for a been used in a case study and good agreement was obtained between the actual and predicted construction costs. The results of the case study are discussed in the paper. The many uses to which the model and sub-models can be put, in providing information on which decisions can be made, are described. The relationships used were developed largely in an east African environment, and although it is applicable with caution in other environments. /TRRL/ abstract of the seminar see IRRD abstract no 220768.
