A TIME BUDGET HYPOTHESIS AS EXPLANATION OF TRAFFIC DEMAND. CONSEQUENCES FOR TRAFFIC MODELLING, EVALUATION OF MEASURES, AND URBAN PLANNING
EEN TIJDSBUDGET HYPOTHESE ALS VERKLARING VAN VERKEERSGEDRAG GEVOLGEN VOOR MODELLENBOUW, VOOR DE EVALUATIE VAN MAATREGELEN EN VOOR DE PLANOLOGIE
The author proposes, that the human being intuitively works with a time budget, in such a way, that on the average a constant fraction of the available time is used for trip-making. Some observations, that support the hypothesis are mentioned. The consequences for theory, practice and evaluation are discussed. The most important consequence would be that travel time can never be saved but only transferred. /Author/TRRL/
