ACCELERATED DETERMINATION OF THE AIR VOID DISTRIBUTION IN FRESH CONCRETE

In the investigation described ten fresh concrete mixes with various air entraining agents were studied to determine the size and distribution of air voids. Mixes without any air entraining agents or with aluminium powder were used as reference mixes. The method used is based on the idea that large air voids evacuate faster than small voids when concrete is subjected to vibrations. According to the author the total air void content stipulated in regulations today could often be much reduced if the size and the distribution of air voids were also taken into consideration. /TRRL/
