USE OF VISUAL DISPLAY METHODS (VESTAL PROGRAM) FOR SLOPE STABILITY ANALYSIS

APPLICATION DE LA VISUALISATION INTERACTIVE AUX CALCULS DE STABILITE DES PENTES--PROGRAMME VESTAL

The use of a visual display panel facilitates the elimination of constraints due to the introduction of different failure curves in the study of slope stability. Results of tests and ease of application of the program have shown the advantages of the latter; it is, at the present time, the only quick method of studying non-circular failures. The vestal program uses the method of disturbance developed at the lcpc for calculating the safety factor in non-circular failure. The traditional Bishop and fellenius methods are added for the case of circular failure. The method is applicable to structures of any geometry and containing a large number of layers. The user can introduce various combinations in the analysis and the parameters used (geometry, characteristics, hydraulic conditions). At the end of the analysis, a complete diagram of the solution to be adopted is produced using a benson tracer and hard copy sequence. For abstract of computer program, see IRRD /TRRL/
