AROUND THE WORLD WITH DP DRILLSHIPS
Experience obtained by operation of Pelican and Havdrill, two drillships built by IHC Holland and commenced operations in 1972 and 1973, is reported. Areas of operations covered North Sea, Celtic Sea, Mediterranean, offshore Angola, Morocco and Labrador. Data presented cover transit, self-sufficiency, waterdepth, positioning flexibility, ship behavior wind, wave spectrum, heave motion, and others. Analyzing the actual data and reports has led to development of an accurate and reliable method of computing ship efficiency. Adequacy of the ship design, as far as the functional layout and dyanmic balance are concerned, has been satisfactorily demonstrated.
