ROAD SAFETY AND LIMITS OF RESEARCH ON EPIDEMIOLOGY

SECURITE ROUTIERE ET LIMITES DE LA RECHERCHE EPIDEMIOLOGIQUE

The author outlines the possibilities of scientific research into accident prevention in the field of risk taking. The main factors discussed are: epidemiology of accidents and design and structure of vehicles, epidemiology of accidents and road network characteristics, and epidemiology of accidents and driver behaviour. The last factor is emphasized as regards the driver education, psychology, personality, psychopathological features, and the effect of repressive measures. The importance of the correction of vehicle defects is also mentioned. /TRRL/
