MOTOR VEHICLE NOISE. ITS MEASUREMENT AND INFLUENCE ON THE ENVIRONMENT
LE BRUIT DES VEHICULES AUTOMOTEURS. SA MESURE ET SON INFLUENCE SUR L'ENVIRONNEMENT
Details are given of the different sources of noise from vehicles and of the basic principles used to reduce this noise. A description is given of standardized methods of measuring the noise emitted by a single vehicle and of the limits of noise levels nationally and internationally. Future trends are mentioned, in particular the proposed law in the state of California, which envisages a noise limit of 70 bd in 1988 for all new vehicles. Results obtained on a current modified model of a lorry are presented. /TRRL/
