COMMENTS ON LIMITS AND FUTURE TRENDS OF PENALTIES IMPOSED FOR RISK TAKING

REFLEXIONS SUR LES FRONTIERES ET LES PERSPECTIVES D'AVENIR DE LA REPRESSION DES DELITS D'IMPRUDENCE IN RELATION AVEC LA CIRCULATION ROUTIERE

Attention is drawn to the fact that current penalties are completely inadequate. This must lead to immediate changes in the law and application of the law, in the education of the driver and of the general public. These changes should be part of a new policy created through the cooperation of legal, judicial and administrative authorities with special regard to the notion of responsibility. A distinction is made between slight and severe offences, and penalties imposed for each type are discussed. Mention is made of the effectiveness of the education of young and older drivers. /TRRL/
