ELASTRO-PLASTIC CALCULATION OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATE SYSTEMS

In the elasto-plastic calculation of statically indeterminate systems, internal stresses are split into fictitious elastic stresses and self-stresses. The latter are calculated with the help of a flow law and principles governing the rate of stress or deformation. In the case when, during loading, the load varies with a single parameter, it is shown that the principle of the rate of elastic deformations caused by self stresses can be used; thus the problem becomes a quadratic programming problem. An example of calculation is given for a continuous three span girder. /TRRL/
